Rower's Diary 21st
February 2009 (3rd Instalment)
I came over the bridge on the hill down to Carbis
Bay beach this morning, the sun was
shining, the sea was calm, our plastic boat was on the horizon with the men in
and I thought what a lovely sight. The
sea, sun and boat that is, we know the men are lovely of course!
We had a quick warm up with a jog across the beach as the
men were coming in, some of us not quite as far as others, we know who we are!
then into the boat for our training session.
Ladies' crews have now been picked for Scillies so the turnaround on the
beach is faster, not much time for a gossip.
Clearly I am only interested in what's going on with the rowing scene
and don't just enjoy a good chat!
Training today was a pyramid session with emphasis on 'the
catch', power and technique. It
certainly has us all gritting our teeth towards the end but was a great way to
encourage us to concentrate. Lesson
learned today was that ladies cannot always multi task.
It was decided that a ladies crew would take part in the
Three Rivers Race in March at Saltash.
This race should take about 50 minutes so a bit of stamina training is
in order I think.
When my crew came into the beach another men's crew went out
and our other ladies' crew had arrived and were waiting to get out for their
session.
As sample sizes for hoodies and fleeces had arrived there
was the opportunity to try on and order these.
I would just like to say that I definitely haven't evolved from an ape
because the arms were way too long, who else can say that?
Don't forget folks that sample sizes are in the gig shed if
you have not yet had time to try on or orde
